There’s one shot that gives me the creeps, only in retrospect. Richey’s looking at me and through the camera. Even when I took it, I thought, ‘What was that look for?’ Not making anything bigger of it, but he didn’t usually catch the camera’s eye, he was usually too busy. He was like in his own sweet world, but maybe knew the camera was there. It’s like you’re locked into something that’s nothing to do with the gig or the audience. Sometimes you know what it is, and sometimes it’s in the abstract and later it makes sense. Yet I did some group shots at the time, and in a lot of the pictures he was just really laughing.
